In Which I Let Myself Go

I tend to put a lot of thought and effort into gift wrapping. Hand sewn appliqued shapes or initials, draw-string bags made specifically to fit your gift, handmade tags, etc.

In an hour we're going to a 1st birthday party and, although I've had the gift for over a week, I only just got around to wrapping it. We didn't have any wrapping paper suitable for a 1 year old boy and I didn't have any fabric in a good size. I was at a loss. Just when I was about to give up and declare we weren't going to the party and we'd have to deliver the gift in a few days when I finally figured out how to wrap it I remembered that I have a huge stack of saved gift bags and tissue paper in a cupboard. And such things make gift wrapping -gasp!- quick! And easy!

This is what it looks like:

And even though I loved that it only took me 2 minutes I feel horribly guilty about it.

It's possible that I might need an intervention.

But it's recycling! You're doing something good for the environment... don't feel guilty. When I don't have any tissue paper or extra bags, I wrap with newspaper.

I think it will do for a one year old!

I used to be very creative with wrapping, but lately I have gotten more and more lazy. Last Christmas I handmade all my tags, embellished all the wrapping with pinecones and handmade ornaments. Lately, if I don't have a bag to reuse that is suitable, I go to the dollar store and buy a bag, stuff some tissue in it, and call it good. On some occasions, particularly for kids' birthdays, I feel great about it--they so don't care anyway. On others, I, too, feel guilty.

Maybe I (you too?) would benefit from making a bunch of different kinds of tags, wrappings, bags of our own, embellishments, etc., to have on hand for such an occasion.

It's for a one year old, you can forgive yourself this once :) But now I'm curious to see the detail you normally go to...

I love wrapping presents, making them beautiful--and I generally go for something that looks like it belongs in Anthropologie.

My dad is OCD about wrapping presents--he uses double-sided tape and a paper-creaser. Everything is symetrical and perfect and gorgeous.

That being said--I doubt the 1-year old noticed the gift came in a bag. ;o)

I am the exact same way. Yes, it's a problem, but I like it.

I want you to know that I have been trying to find an event for which I could use those chocolate cups you wrote about a while ago, and today I finally got to try it. I used the chocolate fondue pot I got for my bridal shower, and it was AWESOME. I only had to wait maybe 1 minute for the chocolate to cool, and so far, nothing has exploded...
